I happen to be a Gujarati. One of my early childhood memories is my father telling me that we belonged to a village called 'Visnagar' in Mahesana district of Gujarat and that centuries ago our forefathers had migrated to the northern parts of India. We are still called 'Visnagras' and we still speak the Gujarati language. I have never been to Visnagar, the place of our 'origin'. And since childhood I had a very dreamy kind of an image of my hometown and I would like to think about it with a strange kind of apnapan. I can't find a word that translates my feeling. Maybe, I should say - a sense of belongingness? I also had this unfulfilled dream of going back to the village some day to feel the soil and breathe the air there. Suddenly, just a month ago, Visnagar made frontpage headlines. The fire had caught up with my lovely little village. Needless to say that my dream was shattered and I woke up to a very harsh reality -- my dear asheesh, today you are living in a very very different kind of world. The air has no emotion and the soil has no warmth. Its appalling to see what a human being can do another human being. And its not only Gujarat. I look around and everywhere its the same story. Its difficult to be a human being these days, because then I too somehow become a part of it and the only way I can react is to hang my head in shame.
Aaj-ke-naam looks a positive way to somewhat negate this nagging sense of being. Being a sound recordist, I was thinking how to be of some use for this movement. I do not have the resources to make a film, so, the only way I can think of cotributing towards the cause is that if someone is planning to make a film for the end of August deadline and wants to hire me for the sound, I will not charge my professional fees.
  Enquiries are welcome.
