The latest India Today magazine (21 Oct,2002) carries
a nice little free gift for its readers this time: A
CD called "2 Minutes to the Truth" (A Govt.of Gujarat
presentation). This is basically a promotional CD-ROM
praising the acheivements of the Modi government in
Gujarat, in a professionally produced multimedia
presentation. Besides all the glorifications of the
typical acheivments (such as the "resolution" of the
Narmada dispute), there is one section worth
mentioning here called the "Trial by Fire" or
Agnipariksha. This is a 19 minutes film/slide-show
about Godhra incident and its aftermath. 

You have to see this multi-media/slide-show and its
subtly emotional commentary that talks about the
inhumane/barbaric Godhra attackers and then how the
government took immediate action to contain the riots
and saved thousands of "minorities" from being killed.
It gives statistics on how many crores of rupees were
doled out to the affected people, how many thousands
were rehabilitated, (7000 peace marches were taken
out!), and how the economy and industry of Gujarat has
not been affected a bit  - more and more companies are
investing into Gujarat, and so on. It also mentions
how Arundhati Roy and Outlook magazine helped in
provoking more violence in Gujarat by spreading
rumours. 

Sorry for helping India Today sell more copies, but
one couldn't help spread this message. Govt. money is
spent on producing the CD-ROM about Modi's
glorification, and "India Today" is being used to
distribute it free of cost. What a convenient
arrangment.
