Dear Martin,
As Dev said, there is a lot of literature available on
the use of open source methodologies beyond software
such as collective invention for the invention of
industrial technology, scientific research and even
design. Some of the articles i have come across are as
follows:
M Osterloh and S Rota Open Source Software Development
Just Another case of Collective Invention? [March
2004]
Available at http://ssrn.com/abstract=561744
P Chandavarkar Crafting the Public Realm: Speculations
on the Potential of Open Source Methodologies in
Development by Design
Available at
http://www.thinkcycle.org/tc-papers/?paper_id=37458&show_full=1
R C Allen Collective Invention Vol. 4(1) Journal of
Economic Behaviour and Organisation 1-24
Also, I have been working on a paper on advocating the
use of open source methodology for design and art for a
conference in March, and so I have also been
researching on this issue quite actively.
cheers,
Jayna
