What could we do to promote educational institutions in our own regions to
apply for low-powered FM radio broadcast licences?

Agreed, this is far, far removed from community radio. It should rightly
be called 'educational radio'.

But then, we need creative ways of extending space available... as our
friends in Nepal did it. Let's not give the government an excuse to say
that they offered it and nobody applied.

Any idea what happened to the list of educational institutions earlier
keen on running their own radio stations -- National Law School in
Bangalore, Shantiniketan in West Bengal, Manipal in coastal Karnataka,
Jamia Milia's communication department?

Could someone in Voices give an update please?

What are the technological options available for anyone wanting to set up
broadcast facilties? If this is not known, it would be impossible to make
a well-studied application. What would be the costs involved -- at
different levels of operation? 

We perhaps need such figures to convince potential educational
broadcasters.

Could someone give us pointers on the web or elsewhere?

Would Unesco, UNDP or similar organisation that appreciate the worth of
radio be willing to offer support -- at least at the technical level? FN
