Scholastic News Zone: UNSS
In May 2002 the Scholastic News Zone Radio team covered the United Nations
Special Session on Children in New York. Two kid reporters describe their
roles and experiences at the United Nations during the Special Session. They
explain to listeners the significance of the Special Session to the lives of
children everywhere.

clubs in Cuba are welcoming children and adults, banks and government

The Mountains of Lesotho: A Sense of Place (Part 1)
The mountain people of Lesotho have experienced dramatic changes in their
lives since work began there on the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. Around
25,000 people are set to be relocated from their highland communities to
make way for a series of huge dams. Tsietsi Kori, relocated to Maseru, tells

M.U.K.A. Project, South Africa
Most United Knowledgeable Artists was founded in Johannesburg by a group of
young people who found themselves homeless in the chaos at the end of
Apartheid. In 1995 they began creating theatre pieces to perform on the
streets, in churches, in schools and in the community centres.

Community Radio School Association, Brazil
Their new project is the implementation of a community radio in Lumiar, a
rural zone of Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro state. They will teach people

Nguixo Community Radio, Mexico
Nguixo Community Radio is one the first initiative of this kind in deep
southern Mexico. It is located in the mountains of Oaxaca State in the
indigenous village of Eloxochitlan, near the town of Huautla de Jimenez.

Radio Free School, Canada
This is a weekly half hour radio program produced by, for and about

Some of the great programmes uploaded by our members are featured in a 'Best
of OneWorld Radio' pilot programme, produced in cooperation with one of our
members, the World Radio Network. This programme includes audio in English
covering the themes children and HIV/AIDS. We will fundraise for the regular
series. You can obtain a copy of the programme by writing to

Broadcast: The Homelessness Marathon
OneWorld Radio member CKUT Radio, together with Le Groupe Communautaire
L'Itineraire from Montreal are going to host Canada's first ever radio
marathon on the issue of homelessness. Read more about this project, to be

Topic in December: Human Rights
"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are
endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a
spirit of brotherhood," reads Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights, proclaimed by the UN on December 10, 1948. A lot of countries
have the four basic principles of the declaration - freedom of speech and
expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want and freedom from fear -
embedded in their constitutions. Yet human rights abuses are still occurring

World Social Forum
On January 25, 2003, the gates open for the 3rd World Social Forum in Porto
Alegre, Brazil. Representatives of civil society groups will be discussing
issues like free trade and globalization with the aim of bringing about a
more social order in the world.

1. OneWorld Radio SEE members responded to the World AIDS Day campaign by
using programmes from our site in their broadcast on 1st December and
uploading their production on the issue of HIV/AIDS to our site.
2. Consequence of this is a fantastic increase in the website stats - in
December we had 12,373 page views, 118 downloads and 137 listening requests.

The OneWorld Radio AIDS Network activities for World AIDS Day led to an
