     AIR Hyderabad testing on  1170 kHz

	AIR Hyderabad was noted testing on 1170 kHz Medium
Wave on Saturday 12 July 2003 afternoon and evening
with test tones and other programs. It is a
reactivated NEC MB 122 A transmitter of 1 kw which was
in use for the Vividh Bharathi service from 24th March
1963. It was taken off service a couple of years back
when the new FM transmitter was introduced. It is
located in the Low Power Transmitter (LPT) site at
L.B.Nagar on the outskirts of Hyderabad. It was in
standby mode for some years but recently was
dismantled and sent to the High Power Transmitter
(HPT) site nearby at Hayat Nagar to be installed as
standby for the main 2x100 kw transmitter there.
However when the installation was in progress at the
HPT, AIR struck deal with the National Institute of
Agricultural Extension Management, Hyderabad to rent
that transmitter to them for one year to broadcast
about 8 to 10 hours per day. Then this transmitter was
dismantled again and taken back to the old LPT site
and reinstalled again. It is expected that programs of
National Institute of Agricultural Extension
Management will commence soon through this
transmitter.
