As regards the specific slots of channels like classical music, regional culture, devotional songs etc the task force that is to be set up on FM radio privitisation will also be focussing on two main issues.

1- A public service broadcasing service channel that can be run by a private agency

2 - Encourage niche listening

One of the task force members admitted that one of their prime objectives, while starting the 1st round of FM channels; were to encourage genre based listening and that it was a failure with the existing number of private channles and their programming which is completely marketing and advertising driven.

This time around, they plan to cut down the competition between the channel in order to avoid similar programming.Though he admitted that it would not be possible to earn profits on running niche channels soon after their station launches , but yet at the same time, genre specific channels are a better option for the listeners and only parties that can afford huge gestation periods for return on investments should apply.

One raising the big question of News on a private radio....he cheekily admitted that it may not be far behind!

That was music to my ears!
