An experienced African programme-maker to support programme-making in 
the
Eastern Africa region, who will work closely with the London-based 
project
director to develop and implement a regional editorial strategy.

Responsibilities
* Development and implementation of a strategy to support programme 
making
in Eastern Africa.
* Commissioning & producing short English-language features suitable for
international distribution from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, 
Ethiopia,
Eritrea and Somalia
* Editing, encoding and uploading audio features to a radio website
* Preparing support materials, such as scripts, for the website
* Working with IWR team to promote or trail features to radio stations
* Attending meetings as Panos/IWR representative where appropriate
* Managing studio and equipment based in Kampala

Requirements
* 5 years experience working in a broadcast environment
* Experience of commissioning and producing work from other journalists 
in
the field
* Experience in producing radio features
* Experience of working on international stories
* Familiarity with international development topics
* Strong digital editing skills on SADiE (or similar digital audio 
editing
system)
* Experience of working in a busy production office
* Strong research skills
* Line-management experience
* Good team working and communication skills
* Ability to travel in the region
* A national of one of the countries in the region

The person will have strong project management skills and experience of
working in the NICT environment - either within the private sector or 
within
an international NGO. The overall responsibility will be to set up and 
run a
pilot project for radio stations to gain access to new technology. The
successful candidate will travel to London for relevant training and
induction into the project.

Responsibilities
* Establish clear criteria for choosing 10 radio stations to take part 
in
the pilot project.
* Carrying out detailed needs assessment of potential radio stations
* Making recommendations about which radio stations should take part in 
the
pilot.
* Forming close relations with pilot project radio stations
* Connecting radio stations with public and private equipment suppliers 
and
service providers
* Organising training either on-site or off-site
* Working with the CATIA partners such as AMARC and OneWorld to ensure
collaboration where possible
* Setting up systems of technical support for each radio station
* Monitoring the progress of radio stations
* Contributing to setting the parameters for monitoring and evaluating 
the
project
* Contributing to analysis of the information generated by the pilot 
project
* Contributing to the knowledge management systems of the wider CATIA
project

Requirements
* Degree in Mass Communication specialising in radio programming and
production
* 5 years experience working on live projects and should be computer
literate with good knowledge in multimedia software
* Familiarity with the broadcasting environment and technical support
experience is required
* Experience of project management
* Experience of working with or in private sector and NGO sector
* Experience of setting up and running project systems
* Experience of working to deadlines
* Good team working and communication skills
* Ability to travel in the region
* National of one of the countries in the region
