Rishi Chawla 
I am Rishi Chawla and I represent Internews.  Internews is  an
international NGO (working in about
40 countries. It implements projects to support local
nongovernmental broadcast media. we conduct training in journalism and
management for local TV & radio stations, we help them handle the legal
issues which arise around broadcasting, we co-produce programming with
them,
we sometimes help them resolve equipment issues, we help them get
on-line,
we try to use the media for conflict resolution (such as our series of
television spacebridges between territories or peoples who normally
don't
get along, or seminars teaching journalists how to report on conflict),
and
we conduct campaigns in the media to help deal with health issues. some
of
our work is in countries where the independent media is still relatively
"young", such as afghanistan, nigeria, and russia.
