Hello Eveybody!
Yes thats a good idea suggested by Geeta to compile (Hmmmm who does it :-)) the inputs from those interested to put their thoughts across to TRAI.
Since i am in Bangalore, i shall attend the Madras meet, i would update all on this list on the outcome. I am not sure, Sajan will the guys be same for the all the meeting? If so then recommendations from different parts could work.
Given the current status of Low Power Radio/CR
here are the BROAD recommendations i strongly urge.
TERMINOLOGY
campus radio, community radio, local radio, and farm radio broadcast. These should be defined. I am working on the definations.
TECHNICAL
Option to use different power transmitters, 30, 50 500 1000watt.
The transmitter output(measured in watts) should not be restricted to just 50watt only, as sajan mentioned earlier 1Kv could also be used if the terrian is hilly for example Garhwal, HP, Kashmir etc where radio waves can 'bounce off the surfaces', 50 watt may not be sufficient.
In coastal area the fishermen out in sea could also listen to programs, messages with 1 Kv. In certain situation less than 50 watt may be sufficient if the population is less.
FAST TRACK CLEARENCE FOF ISSUE OF LICENCE.
Licnesee should be issued license after verification by just one ministry for speedy clearence.
SUSTAINABILITY
To run the radio station, funding from different ministries/should be granted or advertisement should be allowed.
RECORDS
Record of programs for last three months only instead of six months
I guess this is what comes to my mind at this point.
best
mahesh

Subject: RE: [oneworldsa] RE: [cr-india] TRAI Open House on FM
Dear all,
We are encouraged by Sajan's support to our suggestion for a collective
voice on this matter. Since there is very little time left for face to face
meetings to discuss a joint response to the TRAI Consultation Paper (the
last date for sending responses is May 7) and for the Open House, perhaps we
can start sharing our thoughts/papers/perspectives on the Community Radio
issue on these lists (cr-india and OWSA Partnership).
If it's agreeable to all, we could collate these perspectives into a
document that could be sent to TRAI.
Also, we are keen touch base with those planning to attend the Open House
for TRAI consultation in Delhi on May 11. So could you please let us know
your contact details in case you plan to be in Delhi for the Open house?
Sajan and Rahul Kumar, Editor, OneWorld South Asia, could be the contact
points for this. Rahul can be reached at rahul.kumar at oneworld.net or at 011
51756975.
We hope to garner more support on the issue at the UNDP-UNESCO Workshop on
Community Radio on May 5&6 in Delhi.
Best regards

Thank you Sajan, for this. Shall I suggest that we discuss a common
response from CR-India side on this list so that anyone who attends this
meeting is well informed and speaks the same language?
Warmest regards
Shaddy
