Just saw Subramaniam Vincent's article *Community radio and development*
in the 'In Perspective' section of Deccan Herald, July 6, 2004.

Excerpt:

The new government should expedite setting up of
community radios, which help nationa-building in
	many ways.

And the following:

...just before the Vajpayee government was unseated,
there was one reason to cheer. In early May, citizens
groups met officials of the Ministry of Broadcasting.
Also, earlier this year, with the nod of the former
government, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India
(TRAI) began seriously looking into a new phase of
licensing for commercial and non-commercial FM.
Significant citizen response to TRAI led the
regulator's announcement of holding specific consultations
	on CR itself.

Six weeks since the buzz, there is a new government
at the Centre. The Left-backed government has already
given indications that it may go slow on TRAI's work...

I do think we need more articles appearing in the Press, so that awareness
about CR can be spread. As of now, most tend to confuse 'community radio'
with the community radio listening schemes which were popular in the past!
