       Breaking News - I & B Ministry
 
      A request had gone from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to  the DG, AIR to rationalize the time slots being used to run the Community Radio Station by NGOs and CSOs and the DG,
AIR has agreed to give 50% concession on the commercial rates at these stations and has identified  44 such stations . AIR will  extend the
scheme to other stations if convinced that they will be run by
NGO/CSOs for community radio purpose. The DG has conveyed this in his letter dated 7/07/04 and the 44 stations initially earmarked for such purpose are   
 
  AHWA, ALMORA, BELONIA, BHAWANIPATNA, CHAIBASA,DALTONGANJ, DAMAN, DHARAMSALA, DIPHU, GANGTOK,GULBARGA, HALFLONG, HAMIRPUR, IDUKKI, IMPHAL,ITANAGAR, JAISALMAR, JHALAWAR, JORANDA, JOWAI,KAILASHAHAR, KARAIKAL, KARGIL, KATHUA, KAVARATHI,KEONJHAR, KOHIMA, KOKRAJHAR, KURSEONG, LEH, LUNGLEH,MARCAPURAM, MARCARA, MOKOKCHUNG, OBRA, OOTY,
PASSIGHAT, PAURI, POONCH, SURATGARH, TAWANG, TEZU,TURA, TUTICRON.
 
       All those concerned with running communityradio stations may contact the respective station directors.
 
      Also pending the legislation regarding enabling other eligible persons for Community Radio,the Government has issued 16 letters of intent (LOI)to educational institutes to set up community radio
stations in the existing framework . The institutes are:
