Dear all,

I am delighted that there is a strong interest among OW partners in
Community Radio and video aspects. With licences being made available to
educational institutions for community radio stations , I think it is time
for us to launch a campaign for further liberating the media for the benefit
of the poor people living in India.

OWSA partners and CR-India group together can launch this campaign.  Mr
Shankar Ghose's suggestion is very useful.  Can this forum draft a letter
that could be sent to all political parties?  Also, can we get the
press/electronic media to query politicians for the rationale behind their
reluctance in issuing licences?

Any ideas?  Any volunteer who could work with us on this?

  Thanks for the information, there are technologies availabe for practical,
cost effective broadcasting systems over limited ranges.

  You are aware of the case of DDS, who have a full fledged broadcasting
facility installed and can be functional for the past few years at Hyderabad
awaiting Government of India permission to get a "licence" and approval to
commission.

  What I am suggesting is just trying to leverage the current environment in
India re: elections and parties looking for different approaches as the
general mantra during this election is "Development".

  Since time is of the essence, it may happen if we can get this included in
the TDP manifesto as a suggestion, Oneworld can play the role of putting
this together.
