All India Radio (AIR) has placed an order for 300 Sonifex Courier
flashcard portable recorders.
The AIR order, won by Sonifex distributor Comcon Industries, constitutes
the largest single order ever for Couriers. Sonifex previously supplied
BBC Radio with almost 400 Couriers but that was in three separate orders
over a period of two years.
According to Sonifex Managing Director Marcus Brooke, the AIR order is a
"clear vindication" of the acceptability of the Courier as a portable
recorder for national broadcasters.
The AIR order was for ISDN versions of the Courier, enabling use for live
ISDN reporting as well as voice recording and editing in the field. AIR
will use the units for its local broadcasting operations across India.
"The reason AIR chose the Courier over the competing products was simply
that it provided an outstanding feature set for the lowest price," said
Rakesh Aggarwal, managing director of Comcon Industries.
It was important, Aggarwal said, for the recorder to integrate seamlessly
with the Dalet playout system used by AIR.
