[cr-india] Announcing i4d calender 2005

Dear All,

i4d, the monthly print magazine on ICT for development, also available online at www.i4donline.net, has announced its 2005 theme calender and soliciting article contributions for the same. 'Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)' has been decided to be the main focus this year.  

The Millennium Declaration made by United Nations and adopted by 189 world leaders in September 2000 lists out eight goals to be achieved till 2015. Since the adoption of the Millennium Declaration, some questions have been raised by civil society organisations about the MDGs. Why should the public mobilize behind them when so many earlier UN goals remain unfulfilled? and so on. Another question, which is the theme of many debates is: Has ICT got any role to play in achieving these MDGs? Inspite of the doubts, the fact remains that many organisations are deliberating how to include them in the various global or national strategies. i4d feels there is a need to bring awareness, share knowledge and bring issues of ICT and MDG to light. Therefore i4d's primary focus this year is ICT and MDGs. Other than MDGs, WSIS Tunis, this year's important event, will also be covered.  The calender is as follows:

January - Tsunami special
February - MDG Intro/ Poverty Reduction (MDG 1)
March - Gender (MDG 3)
April - Education (MDG 2)
May - Health (MDG 4 & 5)
June - ICT Policy
July - Human Rights
August - Environment (MDG 7) / Millennium +5 Summit
September - e-Science
October - Media and ICT
November - Global Partnerships (MDG 8)/ WSIS Tunis
December - HIV/AIDS (MDG 6)
