Very few of those who have applied have got their licenses. The licensing procedure is infernally tortuous, and it is surprising that many applicants haven't bothered to follow up the status of their applications, though it's been more than two years in some cases. As Dr.Sreedher of Anna University (the first to get a CR license) has pointed out elsewhere, there is a fantastically complex series of clearances and documents to be obtained, including a letter of intent, frequency assignment, site approval, SACFA clearance, license agreement - maybe a blood test - all of which have to be pursued with the relevant ministries and departments.

And pursued with single-minded doggedness, I may add. Sending the occasional query to this mailing list really doesn't help.

We have heard that several applications had gone astray, simply because they were sent through the wrong channels. I hope Ramesh's application wasn't one of them. The National Law School should immediately check with the Information & Broadcasting Ministry whether their license is being considered or not, and in case (god forbid) it hasn't even reached the Ministry, they should send in a fresh application through the proper channels, preferrably with an advance copy to the I&B Ministry.

Sajan.
