dear all:

Wish you all a happy new year and a cr policy!

I think the anxiety being expressed by some people about the status of
the online petition is well-placed. We now nearly 50,000 signatures on
the petition, including hundreds of people in the rural communities of
Medak, A.P., and the Kutch region of Gujarat. All those people have
participated in this campaign with great hope. We urgently need to
take this forward by way of an actual submission. In the meantime as
all of you know the matter has been referred by the Union Cabinet to a
Group of Ministers, which is the equivalent of putting things on the
back-burner in the absence of any interests pushing it.

Which brings me to another related matter... it's high time we created
a formal alliance for community radio to counter the strong lobbying
against CR by commercial interests (who, I am told reliably, are
behind the stalling in the Cabinet). So, in response to another
posting by Ashish Sen, I say we go ahead and form an organization of
some kind which can speak on behalf of the campaign.
