After seeing the way journalists resist/ignore any attempts to build a
self-imposed code -- and fight the government when it tries out one --
I think it's important to claim the moral high ground, and show that
the Government of India is not the only one concerned about fair,
meaningful, productive community broadcasting.

Whether people accept any code or not depends on them. Nothing stops
us from thinking alone these lines, and having one in place even
before the government comes up with a more draconial one. We should
not be concerned solely about issues of 'security of state', but also
of fairness in the media, accountability of broadcasters (to the
community they represent, rather than to the authoriteis) and being
representative (in a participative way) to the community/ies.

We all collectively played the role of midwife, now let's not abandon
the baby! FN
