[cr-india] `Spread of community radio is too slow in India`

Let me take this one step further, if I may. If 6,000
radio stations each of 100W EIRP are implemented, they
will each need at least three to four times that
amount of power to run, considering the recorders,
editors, lighting etc. That adds up to 18 to 20 kW new
energy needs, at diverse points in the country, which
is currently short of transmitted power.
On the other hand, if we strongly urge moving forward
on a combination of exceedingly low power stations,
whose effective coverage of any useful physical
geography (ie, the places that people can actually
listen to radio) is supplemented by broadband data
networks of the kind originally championed by Mission
2007, and now by the Cabinet and particularly by the
President, all of which are very low power
(micropower, actually) applications of radio, we will
adopt a far more responsible and holistic attitude
towards the country's future needs, rather than
narrowly looking at benefiting only those emerging
from decades of repression of community media.
And yes, of course this directly impacts not just
costs (which become marginal) but accessibility.
