Dear all

Greetings from OWSA.

You all would be glad to know that OneWorld South Asia has broadcast the
100th episode of its community radio programme - Ek Duniya Ek Awaaz on
August 8, 2007, at 4.30 p.m., on 102.6 AIR FM Rainbow India.

Initiated in 2004, OWSA started to Capacity Building of Communities on radio
production and programming and the radio programme, Ek Duniya Ek Awaaz is
produced by the grassroots communities who write their own scripts, give
their own

voices and produce their own programmes at the OWSA audio studio.

This initiative has helped OWSA create 2,000 Ek Duniya (OneWorld) Fellows
who have been associated with us in reaching this milestone. All of our 100
programmes have highlighted social issues dovetail around the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs).

The programme has empowered people at the grassroots in moving away from
being passive listeners to active producers of information. Through this
initiative, participants develop an insight into developmental issues and
are the agents for localizing MDGs at the grassroots level. They have
simultaneously grasp all aspects of radio production and programming. They
also learn to disseminate the recorded stories through listeners' clubs and
made communities listen the programmes and debate on the relevant issues.

In Delhi, OWSA is providing a free facility to Community Based Organisations
and communities to use the audio studio

for producing their own programmes on development issues. A few other
partners in India and South Asia have developed their own audio studio to
provide a platform to communities for using radio as an important tool for
dissemination of key and appropriate knowledge at the grassroots level.

The event was attended by media experts, Civil Society Organisations, and
the vibrant Grassroots Broadcasters who are waiting for the Community Radio
Stations to come up and showcase their learning to own the process.

We take this opportunity to felicitate the Ek Duniya (OneWorld) Fellows and
all our partners - organizations and individuals - who have participated in
the production of these excellent programmes as producers, anchors, script
writers, and experts and also all those who provided guidance, support and
encouragement to OWSA for this endeavour.
