[cr-india] Minidisc recorder query & reply

Dear Peter:
Well, I'd say MiniDisc recorders aren't any deader than DATs in this era
of solid state and flash recorders. Is the technology obsolete? Sure it
is. But then so are cassettes.
The MD recorders available now are actually Hi MD recorders, the updated
versions that feature USB transfer and PCM WAV recording, and can take
the newer (1 GB) Hi MD discs along with the older 300 MB MD discs. I'm
afraid all of them are going to be somewhat expensive - anywhere
between USD 180 and 280 per unit. The models you should look for are
Sony's MZ NH 900, MZ NH 700 and the MZ RH 910.
Audio editing software for the Mac? DigiDesign's Pro Tools, Peak DV,
Apple's own new Logic Express and Logic Pro, and Soundforge's Audacity.
Most of these are really overkills for simple usage, though - suggest
you use Soundforge's Audacity, though I've never used it on a Mac (I
have used the first two though). Go to
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac
Hope this helps!
Ram
