Hello,
A Graduate Student from the Media, Art and Text program at Virginia
Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA is focusing her research on the
re-examination of radio in the digital age with a specific focus on
nonprofit local radio asked me to pass this survey on. There are only 4
questions in the survey. If you have a minute please fill it out. Here at
Prometheus we are a hub of information about LPFM stations but there is
still so much we don't know and dont have time to find out. Therefore, it's
great when there are academics who do have time and are interested in
researching community radio, it's impact etc.
Thanks,
Andalusia
This LPFM, College & Community Radio Survey is intended for active
participants in local radio and is part of my graduate research in the
Media, Art and Text program at Virginia Commonwealth University. This will
be the first step in a plan to study nonprofit local radio over the next two
years with the goal of promoting greater support for, and participation in
grassroots non-commercial community radio broadcasting in America.

"Radio is one sided when it should be two. It is purely an apparatus for
distribution, for mere sharing out. So here is a positive suggestion:
change this apparatus over from distribution to communication. The radio
would be the finest possible communication apparatus in public life, a vast
network of pipes. That is to say, it would be if it knew how to receive as
well as transmit, how to let the listener speak as well as hear, how to
bring someone into a relationship instead of isolating them." Bertolt
Brecht

Creative-Radio is an independent forum for people active in or interested in the use of radio in development, in particular promoting public health, improved education, protection of the environment, improved livelihoods, good governance and conflict mitigation. Since it started in 1996, Creative-Radio has been in the forefront of radio’s resurgence as a tool for social change and peace-building, and it helps promote best practice in these areas.
