NEW DELHI: The Government is to give grants to the ones who can suggest
innovations in promoting the community radio movement in the country.
Introduced by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, the Plan scheme
'Supporting Community Radio Movement in India' is aimed at providing
financial assistance to Community Radio Stations under the "Community Radio
Support Scheme" (CRSS).
Grants for innovations in Community Radio sector would be considered in
following categories:
i) Technology
ii) Content development (participatory content development, effectiveness
of different formats, promotion of unique genres etc.)
iii) Research and Evaluation Methods
iv) Audience studies
v) Training/capacity building processes for CRS
vi) Social mobilisation and awareness generation
vii) Sustainability (Social, institutional and financial) with community
engagement and actions.
The CR innovation grants would be announced from time to time on the
Ministry's website and in leading publications nationwide, and will be made
on a competitive application basis to individuals/organisations working in
fields or sectors related to community radio.
Applications received for innovation grants will be examined by a Screening
Committee. Selection of organisations for grants and grant size will be
decided by the Screening Committee. Recommendations of the
Screening-Committee would be taken to the Inter-Ministerial Committee
(IMC). Proposals approved by IMC would be eligible for innovation grant.
The Ministry has placed details required for the applications on its
website mib.nic.in, but each organisation can only submit two applications.
All innovations created under these grants will be made available under a
Creative Common Licence.
The attribution will be on a Share Alike 3.0 License (international)
