An Absent Future?

"…He puts his hand over Nirmala…touches her smooth round
shoulders…he is very familiar with this feeling …slowly he moves his
hand over her body to feel her and tries to identify the slow noise of her
breathings….. and suddenly he wakes her up, 'Nirmala…Niramala'..he
shouts in madness…. 'Do you know me? Do you know me Nirmala?,
Nirmala surprised looked at his face and then asked slowly 'What
happened' ?
And he keeps on looking at her. His eyes keep searching for something in
her face…..
In one of his most famous story titled "Khoyee Hui Dishayen ( The lost
directions)"
Kamaleswar , who demised a few days back, describes the utter loneliness
of a person in the modern world which ultimately makes a person a
complete stranger before himself. The above mentioned story is about a
person , Chander, who belongs to a small town and resides in Delhi for his
job. For obvious reasons he feels himself a complete stranger in this
metropolitan . No one is known to him not he knows anyone, from office to
Auto rickshaw driver and from colleagues up to the next door neighbor and
at the end of the story he tries to recognize his wife and come to realize
that both of them are strangers to one another as well.
Kamaleshwar was one of the finest writer in the contemporary Hindi
literature , the Nayi Kahani ( New Story) school to be precise , a
movement in the Hindi story writing, initiated by the trio of Nirmal Verma,
Rajendra Yadav and Mohan Rakesh.
Like any literature the main dilemma of the writer of this school also can
be seen in their positioning into the three sub strata of By the Human Of
the Human and For The human .In other words it is the dilemma in between
the writer as the story teller , writer as a character (if not the
protagonist) in the story and thirdly writer as a part of very that society
