[Reader-list] Fwd: In Valley, gunmen take to moral policing: ‘enforce hijab in college’

"Let the people speak for
> themselves."
Now, what people are we talking about? Have women been given any say in
their matters in this world? And if one should not speak against unless it
is ideally one's problem, then the issues of Shopian, that of Iran, the
excesses of US in various parts of the world should not find any space on
this list. Let me remind those who will allow the thugs anything if they are
doing in the name of Islam and to those who think that human rights
violation is done only by the Indian "security forces" and by no one else,
that the history of Kashmiri freedom struggle has seen in the past the most
barbarian kind of human rights violation by the so-called freedom fighters.
Intellectuals have been murdered for not saying things that certain "freedom
fighters" wanted them to say. Women have been thrown acid upon for not
wearing hijab or for being seen without a chaperon in the public. People
have been mercilessly massacred for just the crime of not belonging to
Islam. The children have been abducted to be trained as fighters, and the
list goes on. And thanks to the time when some of these groups were
competing against each other in barbarity, they took responsibilities for
such acts. Otherwise, they too would have been attributed to the "security
forces".

Such people who force women to do their bidding, no matter who they are,
must be dealt with not only in Kashmir but elsewhere too; not with in
Kashmir but from outside too.
