This is to remind you all about our next study group meeting. Readings are:
a. Geeta Dewan, "Slumming in India". 
b. Kalpana Sharma, "Rediscovering Dharavi".  
 If anybody is having any problem regarding the availability of the study 
materials please let us know so that arrangement can be made. I am forwarding 
an earlier posting of awdhendra Sharan (with some editing) on our next 
meeting.

Dear friends,

It's been a long while since the study group last met.  Given our
preoccupation  with the City Conference, this is quite understandable.

However, we are quite keen to regroup and I propose that we meet on
Saturday, 1 March at 10.30 am at Sarai.

As some of you would recollect, it had been collectively decided the
last time that the next meeting would be in the form of presentations.
Devesh and Rashmi had expressed their keenness to present from their
work on slums.  Others are welcome too.  So let's do this.

However, I have a couple of other suggestions.

(i)It would be useful that those who intend to present send in a version
of their presentation on the urban study group list, so that others can
come prepared to respond;

If we keep the presentations to 10-15 minutes, we would still have about
11/2 hours for discussion.

I would also suggest that we  move on to some other set of readings for
the meeting in March.  Any ideas regarding themes?

I was thinking that maybe we could do a set of readings on urban
violence over the next few meetings, but let's take a collective
decision on this.
