[Urbanstudy] workshops: Aquitecturas Mexicanas Contemporàneas

The School of Architecture, CEPT University, Ahmedabad in collaboration
with The Apeejay Media Gallery, New Delhi and the Mexican Embassy in
India will host the exhibition, Aquitecturas Mexicanas Contemporàneas:
architecture through video and two workshops with visiting architects
from Oct 10 - 12, 05.

The exhibition will be on view at the Millowners Association Building
from 5- 9 pm on Oct 12, 05.

The workshops will commence on Oct 10 and end on the Oct 12 with an Open
Studio of the work done during the workshops on Oct 12, 05

The first workshop will involve 2 architects visiting from Mexico,
Bernardo Gomez Pimienta and Miquel Adria along with Miki Desai
(architect from Ahmedabad), Walter D’Souza (artist from Ahmedabad)
, Sudarshan Shetty (artist from Mumbai), Ajit Rao (architect and artist
from Lonavala) along with Soumitro Ghosh (architect from Bangalore) to
explore the contemporary situation of flux that we all live in and take
positions of response / comment / reflex etc in various different ways
through our work. Two groups will be formed and each group will work as
a team that will interact intensely to work collaboratively to create an
iconographic objects, text, film, sculpture, sketch, painting,
installation, song, music etc. (whichever medium the group wants to use
for expression) to delve into the mind / work / aspects of Luis Barragan
and his architecture (material, formal or abstract conception etc.).

The second workshop will be carried out by Jose Manuel Castillo Olea
(architect and urbanist, Mexico), P.V.K. Rameshwar (architect and
urbanist, CEPT Ahmedabad), Aniket Bhagwat (architect and landscape
architect, CEPT Ahmedabad), Himanshu Parikh (engineer, Ahmedabad) and
the students of the post graduate programmes in Urban Design and
Landscape Architecture , CEPT University, Ahmedabad.

The workshop will take up the city of Ahmedabad as a case to understand
the relationship between human habitation and land, climate and water.
Patterns of landscape and urbanity, forms of architecture and systems of
regulation- all these are cultural as much as artifactual.. A
cross-cultural group, with participants of various age groups, will
create an interesting platform for the generation of questions and
ideas. The disciplines of architecture, urban design, landscape and
engineering will focus on areas of common concern.

School of Architecture, CEPT, Soumitro Ghosh( Architect) and Anand Bhatt.
