RAMAYANA

This dance drama is a novel composition combining the features of balletsand puppet play.It is introduced amidstthe backdrop of a village fair.In eight beautifully rendered scenes,the stylised movements of the human puppets depict various scenes from the Ramayana,such as the return of Rama from Ayudhaya and subsequent exile;the cutting of Surupanakha's nose;Rawana swearing veneance after hearing his sister's tale of Woe;the abduction of Sita;Jatayu's encounter with Rawana;the seeking of aid by Rama from the Vanaras in regaining Sita; Hanuman's meeting with Sita in Ashoka Grove and finally the battle in which Ravana is killed and the rule of justice re-established. 
PANCHATANTRA

First Performance : Open Air Theatre of Little Ballet Troupe,February 12,1955.

the balletis based on the second of the 5 books that comprise the work "The Winning of Friends".
It depicts the story of the unusual friendship between the crow,the Mouse, the Turtle and the Deer.Traditionally hostile species become friends and save one another's lives at the risk of thier own.the Moral is that "if beats can win so eat a prize of friendship,why should wonder rise in good men who are true and wise?" 

BHAIRAVI
TIME : 1 HR.
First Performane in 1972.
407 performances till the end of 2005. 
The ballet is presented in the Chhau dance style of Mayurbhanj.It is set against the backdrop of the temple of Bhairavi in the hamlet in eastern India. As per custom,every year,a girl is selected to be the Bhairvi and she has to accept her fate unquestiongly.'bhairavi' is the story of how Bhairavas try and track down a suitable girl and how her lover tries to step them from taking her away.Through the mystic powers of the Bhairavi,he is immobilized but later confronts and vanquishes the Bhairavi and all her satellites.The shackies of myth and superstition are broken by his act of bravery. 

CHATUR BHANDER


TIME ; 1 HR. 5MTS.
First performance-1980.

the ballet is based on the story of the Wise Monkey and the Crocodile-A fable fromthe Panchatanra.The birds and beasts of the fable live out human situation.Tension is depicted by the scattering of the deer,hare and smaller animals when the tiger walks in the forest,and there is joy when the Elephant defeats him and harmony prevails.The frienship of the monkey with crocodile and the wise monkey's move to save himself when the crocodile betrays him is the main theme of the ballets.betlet.

DISCOVERY OF INDIA

TIME :2 HR.
First performance-Kamla Raja Girl College,Gwalior,May 1965.

The ballet is based on Jawaharlal Nehru's 'Discovery of India'.In this ballets they get glimpses of the ruthless exploitation and denudation of Bengal and Dacca by the East India Company;the appearance of the sings revolt;the sepoy revol of 1857;proclamationof Empire by Queen Victoria;oppression by caste Hindus;spread of English Education,the effect of the first world war on indians ;the tragedy of Jallianwala Bagh;thetaking of the pledge towars freedom,the Era of struggle from 1932 to 1942 and the forming of the Quit India Movement. though Nehru's book finishes here,the ballet continues the story upto the fruition of the struggle in the attainment of Independence. 

CHAKRAVYUHU

TIME: 1 HR.
First performance is yet to take place as the ballet is in the final stages of its production.
The ballet is based on an episode from the Mahabharatha where Arjun's son Abimanyu,breaks through the Chakravyuhu formed by the Kauravas and is martyred,leaving behind an example of sheer courage and bravery.
