I came across this lecture from a few years ago. It's reallly worth watching... about how politics imagines itself as a spatial or architectural system in Israel and Palestine. Given the recent push to reign in the informal city in India, we can learn a lot from the way in which walls, demolition or even surgical destruction (a la the war on terror... hence Wiezman more recently suggested we consider military strategy as a strategy of urban planning) have been used to destroy the livelihoods of the Palestinian people. His examples of Israeli settlement housing are fascinating... houses which are designed to evoke a relationship with the land and cultivation (on land previously cultivated by Palestinians). See especially the use of the red tiled roof... Sarjapura road anyone?
