[Urbanstudy] Screening of Pedal Soldier of India & Discussion on Innovations in Rickshaw Economy on 6th June, 2012

We are happy to invite you for the screening of the documentary film “Pedal
Soldier of India” reproduced by Institute of Democracy and Sustainability,
as part of our current *iAdapt Campaign (*on Urban Adaptation*). *

*Synopsis: *

The movie meanders around the issues of rickshaw* waalas* especially to do
with their livelihood and their role with commuters. It also reflects upon
the Sociology of India with a focus on its democracy drawing analogies from
its roads.


The rickshaw has always been a source of political and ideological debate.
They are seen from the outside as been exploited but internally, the
rickshaw *wallas* themselves do not see it that way. The film looks at all
these questions and the question of their stable or unable livelihood,
nomadic existence with no roof over head, constant law and order bashing
etc. It concludes with the fact that they are an extremely earth friendly
way of commuting.


We are also going to have a panel discussion after the movie on the
“Innovations in Rickshaw Economy” with the panelists Mr. Rajendra Ravi,
Director, Institute of Democracy and Sustainability, Mr Navdeep Asija,
Founder Eco-Cabs (won National Urban Mobility Award, 2011), Mr Ravee
Ahluwalia, Founder, Patiala Green Cabs. Rickshaw drivers will also be
present on the occasion to share their experiences.
