Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the staff of the International Journal of Islamic
Architecture (IJIA), I would like to announce the publication of our
first special issue (Vol. 2, Issue 1). IJIA is a bi-annually published
peer-reviewed journal on architecture, urban design, planning, and
landscape architecture. Committed to inviting new research on
understudied topics and reaching out to a broad international
readership, IJIA aims to encourage dialogue between practitioners and
scholars and enhance appreciation for urban heritage and pioneering
design work in the region.

With İpek Türeli as guest editor, this volume contains an editorial on
the politics of “small architectures” and the remaking of public
spaces in Middle Eastern Cities; Palestinian-Israeli participation in
the mass-housing protests of Summer 2011; the spatial politics of
encampment in the case of TEKEL resistance in Ankara; the occupation of
Delhi’s monuments as refugee camps during the Indo-Pakistan Partition; the
use of Pakistan's modern monuments during “long march” protests; the
spatial logic of crowd occurrence in the streets of Tehran following
the 2009 presidential election; and an analysis of the meaning and use
of space around Shaheed Minar, the Martrys Monument, in Dhaka. This
issue also includes book and exhibition reviews, and conference
precis.

We would appreciate it if you would share this announcement with your
colleagues. And we also look forward to receiving your contributions,
comments, and suggestions.
