If you are in Delhi on November 7th, do come for the screening. And spread
the word to those who might be interested in watching the films.

When: November 7th, 2013 at 7:00 pm
Where: Casurina Hall, India Habitat Centre

------------------------------

One of the main currents in post-Independence India was that of movement
and settling - a search for ‘home’ for many people. These films look at
this idea from various perspectives - that of Partition refugees, migrants
from rural areas to the cities, the struggles of the new settlers and the
dehumanizing conditions of city life. While the ‘home’ is a place of
shelter, it can also be an elusive search for many.

Search for Shelter
Dir.Ravi Prakash (Eng/1950/9 min)
The film looks at the pressures of housing new settlers and the growth of
new townships within Bombay.

New Life of a Displaced Person
Dir. Paul Zils (Eng/1956/21 min)
A film on the resettlement and rehabilitation of Partition refugees in the
Tarai region.

The Burning Sun
Dir. S.N.S.Sastry (Eng & Hindi/1973/20 min)
A film about the living conditions of slum dwellers in the city of Bombay.

Aagman (Arrival)
Dir. Mani Kaul (1979/19 min)
A film on the movement of goods and people, caught in a cycle of
consumption and exploitation in the city.

Gautam Bhan from Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) will be
joining the post-screening discussion.
