Greetings from CEPT Archives!

We are glad to inform you about the inception of CEPT Archives in 
Ahmedabad (India) on 1st December 2013. At this early developing 
stage, we would be privileged to be in your contact lists and develop 
a more interactive relationship with various archives, resource 
centers and scholars from across the globe, through the H-Asia 
platforms. 

CEPT Archives for architecture, planning and design is envisaged to 
be the first of its kind and most comprehensive resource center in 
the country. Dedicated to collecting, recording and disseminating 
information, about varied subjects related to architecture, planning 
and design, the center will actively engage in different archival 
activities. Items in all variety of languages and formats will be 
archived, to serve the wide-spread community of interested students, 
researchers and general public. Simultaneously, the center will also 
promote public interaction, institutional collaborations, and digital 
services, to provide and sustain a unique environment for 
critical inquiry and scholarly exchange.


All kinds of rare material like letters, photographs, drawings, 
building models, sketches and any other relevant data (original or 
reproductions), along with its background information, falls in 
the realm of the center's act of collection. The immediate focus of 
this center is to gather, catalog and preserve the significant works 
from, in and around the city of Ahmedabad, before they get lost 
in time. Hence, the center intends to initiate its work by archiving:

1. Existing Documentation & Related Studies at the University

2. Design Evolution of CEPT Campus's Architecture 

3. Historically significant works (individuals and buildings) from 
1947-1957 in Ahmedabad

4. Oral Histories of Urban Planners

The scope of the center is then expected to gradually expand with the 
inclusion of works from, different allied disciplines and across the 
country. Eventually, the wide-range of student and academic works of 
CEPT University will also get archived.

Since, we are clearly a very young setup, learning our ways into the 
archival science, any specific suggestions and help from your end 
will be highly appreciated. Considering the fact, quite a few of you 
might have a vast experience or strong networks in this field, we 
will be looking forward to your response and recommendations, if 
any. Many thanks.

CEPT University focuses on understanding, designing, planning, 
constructing and managing human habitats.Its teaching programs build 
thoughtful professionals and its research programs deepen 
understanding of human settlements.  CEPT University also undertakes 
advocacy and advisory projects to further the goal of making habitats 
more livable.

The University comprises five faculties.  The Faculty of Architecture 
was established as the School of Architecture in 1962.  It focuses on 
design in the private realm.  The Faculty of Planning, focused on 
planning in the public realm, was established in 1972 as the School of 
Planning.  The Faculty of Technology, which concentrates on 
engineering and construction, was established in 1982 as the School of 
Building Science and Technology.  The Faculty of Design was 
established in 1992 as the School of Interior Design.  It deals with 
habitat related interiors, crafts, systems, and products. Faculty of 
Management is a newly established faculty from the Faculty of 
Technology Management and it focuses on Habitat and Project Management

CEPT University takes its name from the Center for Environmental 
Planning and Technology (CEPT).  CEPT and the various schools that it 
comprised were established by the Ahmedabad Education Society with the 
support of the Government of Gujarat and the Government of India.  The 
Government of Gujarat incorporated CEPT as a university in 2005. The 
University Grants Commission recognized CEPT University under section 
2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 in 2007. The Department of Scientific and 
Industrial Research (DSIR) of the Government of India recognizes the 
University as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization 
(SIRO).
