Dear Urban Study Group members,

I am writing to you about *Sustainable Cities*, a free online course being
launched worldwide on 15th November 2016, produced by the SDG Academy
<https://courses.sdgacademy.org/> and curated by the Indian Institute for
Human Settlements (IIHS <http://www.iihs.co.in/>).


This 55-session, 11-week course is curated by leading urbanist Aromar Revi,
Co-Chair of UNSDSN and Director, IIHS and a team of 27 global thought
leaders and practitioners, from 23 of the world’s leading universities,
urban institutions and networks. It includes Jeffrey Sachs the UN Secretary
General’s Special Advisor on the SDGs and University Professor at Columbia
University and Clare Short, Chair of Cities Alliance.


As the world prepares to implement the United Nations’ Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) in cities and countries across the globe, *Sustainable
Cities* will equip participants with a broad interdisciplinary
understanding of leading practices and debates on urban sustainability. It
blends practical experience and cases from cities and regions in all six
continents, along with urban theory - to help develop a critical
understanding of the challenges and responses to the opportunity of
sustainable urbanisation.


The course takes a cross-sectoral, multi-stakeholder and multi-level view
of the economic, socio-political and environmental dimensions of urban
sustainability, across cities as diverse as: Bangkok, Durban, London,
Melbourne and Mumbai.

*Sustainable Cities *has been filmed on location in 15 cities across the
world to provide students, professionals, researchers and practitioners a
bottom-up understanding of how urban transformation, is sweeping across the
globe.

This course is open to all. There is no course fee and enrollment can be
