Dear all,

The SDG Academy and the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS)
announce the launch of the second edition of *Sustainable Cities*, a free
online course. This 55-session, 14-week course is curated by leading
urbanist Aromar Revi, Co-Chair of UNSDSN, Director at IIHS and a team of 27
global thought leaders and practitioners, from 23 leading global
universities, urban institutions and networks. This includes Jeffrey Sachs,
the UN Secretary General's Special Advisor on the SDGs and David
Satterthwaite from IIED, among others.

The course examines how urban sustainability can be delivered; how we can
increase urban productivity and reduce inequality; enable urban inclusion
and safety; provide universal basic services, housing and infrastructure;
protect the urban environment; and reduce risk and vulnerability. It
further explores what actions need to be taken to improve urban governance
and finance for sustainable development whilst highlighting the key
institutions that can drive these changes.

*Sustainable Cities* takes a cross-sectoral view of the economic and
socio-political dimensions of urban sustainability, across cities as
diverse as: Bangkok, Durban, London, Melbourne and Mumbai. It has been
filmed on location in 15 cities across the world to provide students,
professionals, researchers and practitioners a bottom-up understanding of
how urban transformation is sweeping across the globe.

The course is structured around a series of pre-recorded lectures,
readings, live webinars, quizzes, discussion forums and other activities.
Each of these course components can be completed at a time that is
convenient for the participant and there are no written assignments.

The first edition of *Sustainable Cities* was held from 15 November 2016 to
27 February 2017. The course saw a participation of 6300 learners from 100+
countries. The second edition will commence on 31 May 2017 and conclude on 6
September 2017. Many of you had joined last time, but if you know anyone
who might be interested in joining, please do spread the word.

This iteration will also be offered in multiple languages (Lecture
subtitles, readings and webinars).
