India's new FM radio policy 'likely soon'
The Indian government has indicated that a new FM radio policy would
possibly be outlined at the beginning of February. India's Times News
Network reported that the new policy would help lay the ground for
hundreds of radio stations across the country, lessen the financial
burden of the "bleeding" FM radio companies and end the three-year
delay on policy reforms. The policy was drafted with recommendations
by the Telecom Regulatory of India (TRAI) and Radio Broadcasting
Policy Committee. Both parties have recommended for licence fee
payments to come into effect on 2 April. The new FM radio policy aims
for FM radio to cover 60 percent of the country's population as
compared to 30 percent coverage at present.
