The title of this Business Line story is a triumph of hope over experience. 

Meghalaya has 5 radio stations, inlcuding two 'community radio' stations at Williamnagar and Nongstoin. AIR stations in Meghalaya broadcast news bulletins in the four major languages of the state (Khasi, Garo, Jaintia and English), for 5 to 10 minutes per day per language.

One could say that the 2.3 million people of Meghalaya are well covered by radio. Even so, as the Minister says, the people living in the border areas are not really connected with the news facility, making them wonder if they are "staying outside the country." 

Which bring us to the question: Dude, where is my community radio policy?

Meghalaya to get radio stations soon

In India, the government of Meghalaya has asked Prasar Bharati to set up radio stations in the border areas of the state so that people living there can avail the news service.

The State Home and IPR Minister, H.D.R Lyngdoh while inaugurating a training programme for the All India Radio and Doordarshan employees on Sunday had commented that people living in the border areas were not really connected with the news facility so wondering if they were not Indians or were staying outside the country.
