Hi Upasana,
To my knowledge, there has been no need assessment done prior to setting up
CR. As others in this group who have involved with CR will agree, there has
been and will be consensus by community that CR in their locality is good
idea. When we ask them what benefit will it give, the answers will depend
upon the occupation/profession of the respondent. For example for the namma
Dhwani Project in Kolar, Karnataka, when we asked what programs should be
broadcast through CR. The response was...in early morning there should be
devotional music, in afternoon program for women and kids and in the
evening, some agriculture broadcast.
This is precisely what All India Radio broadcasts every day for regional
programs.
When I asked a farmer his choice of program through CR, he said he wanted to
know wholesale rates of vegetables in nearby towns so that he can decide
to sell where profit is more.
I remember when I was in VOICES qualitative data on radio sets in five
villages of Kolar was available, the data was collected I think in 1999/2000
not sure.
Deccan Development Society, in Pastapur, may have some data that you are
looking at.
regards,
mahesh
