Lanka launches'cultural'radio

The first cultural radio channel in the SAARC (South
Asia Association for Regional Cooperation) was
launched in February in Sri Lanka.

This channel, named Visiral, has as its main objective
the protection of the cultural heritage of the
country. It will be aiming to make listeners aware of
different subcultures such as rural, urban, coastal
and upcountry.

Visira cultural radio is sponsored by the Central
Cultural Fund in collaboration with Sri Lanka
Broadcasting Corporation and the Ministry of Cultural
and Religious Affairs.
