Dear Friends,

I,Mr.Abdul Rehman Pasha, would like to make amends to the above
statement/report which forms the part of the report bellow. 

It is not the Union Govt. which has permitted to start 12 CRS in the
(Karnataka) state...
It is the Karanataka State Govt. in the Dept. of Information has come up
with an ambitious scheme to 'assist' 12 NGOs (3 in each revenue division) in
the state to Establish and run CRS of their own. 

Under the scheme they are contemplating to provide assistance in acquiring
required hard and software for recording, producing and broadcasting radio
programs, provide information, training etc. the concerned NGOs are only to
provide a suitable building. 

For 12 such provision made by the State Govt. about 200 NOGs have applied as
the candidates for seeking assistance. The selection procedure is yet to
start. 

I, being in closer circle of those who can assist the dept., suggested that
awareness building workshops should be conducted so that the concerned NGOs,
first know what are seeking for; the merits and demerits of CRS; problems
involved in sustaining it etc. so that can take an fully informed decision
to be in the race for the selection or even be motivated to start CRS
despite the Govt's help. 

The Dept. published a small book, entitled 'Samudaya Radio' in Kannada,
written by me, which included MIB's Guidelines (translated into Kannada),
which was sent to the participating NGOs to go through and be informed
before the attend the workshop, which was said to be compulsory to remain in
the selection list. A note in Kannada, written by me with technical input by
Sri Narasimha Swamy, Sup. Engineer, AIR,Bangalore was to given to the
participants. During the workshop, Namma Dhwani from Budikote
(Myrada/Voices), and Kelu Sakhi from Mysore (IT for Change/Mahila Samakhya)
were invited to present their projects as a experiment in CRS. I was asked
to facilitate all the four workshops, and I hope they have generated
sufficient awareness among the participants, and those seriously interested
are following up with applying to MIB to get the licenses. (Getting at least
Letter of Intent from MIB by their own effort has be made to be a essential
requirement to be in the selections list.)

BELGAUM: Amita Prasad, regional commissioner, has said community radio 
station should become the voice of the people who do not have a voice. 
Inaugurating 'Namma Banuli' a workshop organised by the department of 
Information, here on Tuesday, Amita said community radio stations should 
discuss the problems routinely faced by the rural masses.
She suggested that issues related to education, agriculture, women 
empowerment and infrastructure development ought to be taken up.
Amita said the community radio stations should also focus on success stories

and the developmental programmes launched by the government. "It can guide 
the youngsters about employment avenues," she added. Involving Stree Shakti 
Groups in the programmes is yet another suggestion.

director of AIR Dharwad and Gangadharappa, HoD of Journalism, Karnataka 
University, Dharwad spoke. Ravikumar, joint director of Information 
department presided.
Basavaraj Kambi, deputy director of Information Belgaum welcomed. C P 
Mayachari, assistant director of Haveri Information department compeered the

programme. P S Hiremath, senior assistant director Information, Dharwad 
proposed a vote of thanks. Several representatives of NGOs who had applied 
to get the permission to start the community radio station participated in 
the workshop.
