Over the past few days, we have been fed countless press releases emerging from the Radio Forum held in Mumbai last week. What did they have to do with community radio?
As far as I know, this is an unmoderated list. That apparently gives the radio 'industry' the right to overload readers with huge doses of undiluted and undisguised propaganda. If the industry cares so much about the opinions of the community radio sector, it would be nice to have a few paid media researchers to dig out and keep us informed with news about the genuine community radio sector in the country. Apparently, it has enough money to spare for the purpose.
[Highlights of the Forum session, given to me by someone who was there: all day session at the Taj Land's End Hotel, per capita cost at least Rs 2,000, including meal and presumably two snack breaks; smart red 'delegate bags' given to all, including allegedly half the delegates who were invited (and therefore didn't pay the supposed 4k/head fee) to make up the numbers (no prize for guessing who donated the 'Red' bags); lots of goodies packed into the said bags; one entire day spent hearing about how successful the media companies are; same entire day spent listening to how tyrannical is the government].
