Dear Mr. Pritam,
Of course, any small step to strengthen the community radio sector in India
is more than welcome. No one here doubts the intent or purpose of the
government to promote the “democratic” medium (?).
The only concern of the CR enthusiasts, however, is that, the (limited)
resources that the government has set aside for CR must be utilized in a
manner that positively impacts the proposed CR expansion in the country –
hence the responses and the suggestions.
If the funds do not reach those they are meant for – i.e. the marginalized
communities, or serve the rationale that the government has in mind, or get
siphoned off by well-meaning but poorly informed/inexperienced ‘training
shops’, we may not be able to realize our ‘dream’ of a vibrant CR sector,
after all.
Lofty, romantic ideals also require ground-level and realistic
implementation to materialize.
The “gentlemen” [sic] you are referring to have the knowledge, and
experience of working along with the communities/common people and have
actually spent a good part of their life struggling to see that the CR
policy becomes a reality.
