[Urbanstudy] CDP revision related

Dear Friends,


As you know BDA has undertaken the revision of Bangalore's Comprehensive
Development Plan (CDP). The draft CDP has been kept at Yuvanika in an
attempt to invite suggestions from the public. A few of us have
thoroughly read the draft CDP to review its plans and policies for the
765 slums in Bangalore. It is quite shameful that there is no
comprehensive plan or policy that has been included that caters to the
needs of the urban poor and slum dwellers. (A detailed critique of the
CDP is enclosed for your benefit).


Added to this ignoring of the urban poor / slum dwellers in the CDP is
the fact that there is no avenue for this section of the public to
firstly know the contents of the CDP and secondly to offer their
critique. To counter this marginalization of the urban poor / slum
dwellers, slum youth from around 10 slums of Bangalore and other
people's associations active in slums have come together to take this
issue to the people.


What they have planned is to circulate booklets and pamphlets among the
urban poor / slum dwellers at the earliest besides holding a 2 day
workshop for slum youth on “Urban development and slums in the era of
globalisation era”. This is planned for next week. However, this group
is facing serious financial hurdles in carrying out these tasks.


It is our request that you / your organization please do contribute
towards this process

     1. Booklet critiquing the CDP 2000 copies (4 pages) – Rs. 8000/- to
        be circulated in slums among slum leaders and other organization
        
     2. General public – pamphlets Kannada 10,000, Tamil 7,000, Urdu
        3,000 – Rs. 5,000/-
        
     3. Two – day workshop for slum youth and “urban development and
        slums in globalisation era”, 50 people, Rs. 20,000/-
