[Urbanstudy] Voter IDs being linked with UID

Dear all,

Has this come to your attention? So far, we had heard of UIDs being made
mandatory, and the subsequent Supreme Court order to the contrary.

However now in Jharkhand, we find that UID data is being collected by Booth
Level Officers (BLOs), apparently, for insertion of UID numbers in Voter
IDs. All voters, who have a voter ID, as per the voter list, have to submit
their UID number.

Is it happening in other states? While we know for sure that here copies of
UIDs are being collected by BLOs, is there really plan of merging the two?
How would it affect the debate on UID?

Any information?
